Ketamine treatment
Ketamine is not FDA-approved specifically for anxiety disorders. Evidence is smaller and more preliminary than the depression literature, and depression findings should not be presented as proof of anxiety treatment effectiveness. Established psychological and medication treatments remain part of a clinician-led assessment.

Denver is the capital and most populous municipality in Colorado, situated in the South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains, just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Functioning as a consolidated city and county, Denver County serves as the central hub for specialized psychiatric and medical services in the state. Residents exploring novel treatments for treatment-resistant depression have established local options to consider within the city limits. Local facilities such as Relief Mental Health and Denver Ketamine Clinic provide various forms of ketamine therapy, including intravenous infusions and Spravato, directly within the urban core.
Because Denver features a robust highway system and regional public transit network, patients have relatively straightforward access to these specialized centers. However, individuals may also look to nearby communities in the broader metropolitan area for treatment, comparing options in towns such as Centennial or exploring specialized care in communities like Lafayette or Greeley, depending on specific clinical needs, provider availability, or commuting preferences. Evaluating the clinical setting is an essential step, as treatment protocols, medical oversight, and care integration vary significantly from practice to practice. Working closely with a primary care provider, referring psychiatrist, or local mental health professional can help individuals navigate the complex landscape of specialized mental health care in the Denver area. A collaborative approach ensures that any chosen facility aligns with comprehensive treatment goals and adheres to necessary safety requirements.

When considering intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), or sublingual ketamine for mental health conditions, Denver patients should anticipate that these off-label treatments are typically self-pay. Insurers frequently categorize off-label ketamine administration as experimental, requiring patients to cover the costs out-of-pocket. Prospective patients should request a detailed written estimate outlining the expenses for initial assessment, the full induction series of treatments, and any maintenance visits. It is also important to factor in additional expenses such as transportation or temporary lodging if traveling significant distances across the Front Range for care. Furthermore, the FDA has warned about potential risks associated with compounded ketamine products, emphasizing the need for professional, on-site medical supervision. Read the warning here: FDA compounding risk notice.
In contrast to off-label treatments, Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray indicated for specific adult depression conditions. Due to its approved status, Spravato is more likely to be covered by health insurance plans. However, coverage varies significantly among insurers and generally requires a stringent prior authorization process. Patients should work closely with their clinic and insurance provider to understand their benefits, potential copayments, and out-of-pocket maximums before beginning treatment.
Pursuing ketamine therapy requires a comprehensive assessment and a commitment to repeated visits. For FDA-approved Spravato, treatment must occur in a certified healthcare setting. Patients undergo at least two hours of post-administration observation to monitor for potential side effects such as dissociation or elevated blood pressure. Following Spravato administration, patients cannot drive until the next day after a restful sleep, requiring a responsible adult to provide transportation home. Spravato is never administered at home. While some clinicians may prescribe off-label compounded ketamine for home use, these formulations are not FDA-approved for psychiatric care, and the FDA has issued warnings regarding the risks of using them without on-site medical monitoring.
Denver patients must plan carefully for travel logistics. Front Range traffic and unpredictable mountain weather can impact travel to and from appointments, making a reliable transportation plan essential. Telehealth may support initial assessments or follow-up consultations, but it does not establish home treatment availability for these monitored therapies. If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health crisis, please reach out to the Colorado Mental Health Line at https://bha.colorado.gov/988. You can call or text 988 at any time. Denver clinics offer various treatment modalities, including off-label intravenous (IV) infusions, intramuscular (IM) injections, and sublingual troches. Additionally, several certified facilities provide Spravato, an FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray for specific types of depression. Treatment options depend entirely on the specific clinic’s capabilities and the patient’s individual psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis.
No, Spravato is never administered at home. Due to strict FDA regulations, it must be administered under direct medical supervision in a certified healthcare setting. Patients are required to undergo at least two hours of clinical observation following the dose to safely monitor for any potential adverse side effects.
Insurance typically does not cover off-label IV, IM, or sublingual ketamine treatments, making them out-of-pocket expenses. However, FDA-approved Spravato is more frequently covered by insurance for eligible adult depression indications, though it generally requires prior authorization. Always consult your insurance provider and the clinic for a detailed coverage estimate.
While Denver's mile-high elevation does not directly change the pharmacology of ketamine, altitude can sometimes contribute to dehydration, headaches, or fatigue. Patients should ensure they are well-hydrated before and after their treatment sessions. Discuss any altitude-related concerns or existing respiratory conditions with your provider during the initial assessment.
Yes, a responsible adult must drive you home after your session. Whether receiving an off-label infusion or FDA-approved Spravato, patients are strictly advised against driving or operating heavy machinery until the following day after a restful sleep, due to the medication's lingering dissociative and sedative effects.
Yes, patients have options across the broader metropolitan area and the Front Range. While there are clinics within Denver, individuals may also evaluate providers in nearby communities like Englewood, Aurora, or Lone Tree. Expanding your search radius can help you find a clinical setting that matches your treatment needs.
Costs, coverage & aftercare
IV, IM and compounded ketamine for psychiatric conditions are off-label; many programs are self-pay. Ask about assessment, medication, administration, monitoring, therapy and maintenance charges separately. We do not assume a statewide price.
Spravato is FDA-approved esketamine, not the same as ketamine infusions. Coverage is not guaranteed. Check eligibility, prior authorization, network status, drug and visit charges, deductibles and copays with your insurer and clinic.
Spravato requires a certified healthcare setting and monitoring for at least two hours. Arrange transport home; do not drive until the next day after restful sleep. For other ketamine treatments, follow your clinician's instructions. Follow-up and maintenance depend on response and tolerability.
Ask who manages your medications, how your usual clinician will receive updates, and whom to contact between visits. Neither a shortage designation nor local depression statistics show that ketamine is appropriate or effective for you. Consult a licensed physician.
Use these questions when you call or book a consultation with any Denver provider.
Ask whether a physician, psychiatrist or anesthesiologist oversees each session and who you can reach afterward.
A good clinic reviews your history, medications, blood pressure and past treatments before recommending ketamine.
Look for continuous vital-sign monitoring and a calm, private recovery space.
IV infusions, Spravato® nasal spray, IM or sublingual options suit different goals and budgets.
Ask how the clinic coordinates with your therapist or offers integration support between sessions.
Request a written estimate for the first series and any maintenance sessions before you start.
